The STMA United travel soccer teams finished week two of the MYSA league season. Fighting rain and storms all week long, STMA United came out with good results. Week two team highlights are below!
Super U8 Girls – Cheetahs
Despite an amazing effort in goal by Bailey C, who made 25 saves on the day, the girls couldn’t break through Edina’s defense to score a goal of their own. The Cheetahs were tied with Edina at the half, but unfortunately for the girls, Edina found the net in the 2nd. Good effort all around for the Cheetahs, who are looking forward their first home game next week.
Way to go!
u10 Girls Maroon – Dorland
This was a great week for the U10 girls coached by Tim Dorland and Eric Braun. The team played extremely well in all four of their games and came out on top in all of them.
The highlight of the week for the u10’s was the Kickers tournament. All of the girls played very well with each player having multiple goals or assists. The passing game has improved and their defense is rock solid. They are learning to play as a team and finding success!
Way to go girls!
u11 Girls C2 – Sustacek
Game 2 was an exciting one for the U-11 Girls Sustacek team where they earned their first win of the season against PSA 4-0! The game started out with Sophia F putting her corner kick in front of the net and Emma D finishing it for a goal. Emma also had another goal on a breakaway where she shot from the right side of the field and placed the ball in the left edge of the goal.
Cora W had a great game as well scoring a pair of goals. The first goal was set up by a cross from Jenna J while the 2nd goal came on a beautifully placed shot in the upper corner of the goal from just outside the 18yd line. Not to be outdone by all the scoring, Chloe F and Brooke B split the goal keeping duties and preserved the shutout victory for the u12’s.
Great job!
u12 Boys – Spitalnick
The u12 boys team, lead by coach Howard Spitalnick, picked up their first win of the season on Wednesday evening by defeating the Urban Soccer Stars 2-1.
The match with USS was highlighted by a great defensive effort from the entire team. Dominic P. was a relentless hustler and the u12’s first year goalkeeper, Ben L., made some amazing saves including a penalty kick to secure the victory. Scoring for STMA were Riley P. and Joe S. It was the first goal of the season for both players.
Way to go Boys!
u16 Girls C1 – Dewey
The u16 c1 girls team, coached by Darek Dewey, is off to a great start in league play this season. The team has opened the year with back to back shutouts against Eden Prairie (2-0) & Minneapolis United (3-0) by using tenacious defense to stifle the opposition. How solid has the defense been in league play? Well, during the two games league games, the team has only allowed 1 shot on goal….combined.
Fantastic effort all around.
