A Wright-County based theater group is bringing its award-winning show to the St. Michael-Albertville Performing Arts Center for a one-night only staging.
“The Romancers” will take the stage at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 7 for a special performance. Admission is free, but the players would appreciate any donation that would help them on their journey to take this show to the American Association of Community Theaters’ Regional Competition in Iowa later this month.
This 60-minute play, performed by the FungusAmongus Players of Dassel-Cokato, earned six awards and was named “Best of Festival” last weekend at Minnesota Association of Community Theatres Fest, a competition for adult community theaters held every two years. Ten theater companies from across the state participated. This production will now represent Minnesota at the American Association of Community Theaters Midwest Regionals in Newton, Iowa at the end of April. From there, one show will be chosen to perform at the American Association of Community Theatres Nationals in Grand Rapids, Michigan in June.
“The Romancers” by Edmond Rostand – Synopsis
Set in France in the 1600’s, two young lovers, forbidden access to each other by their feuding fathers, secretly meet at the wall which divides their properties. Their romantic tryst is rudely interrupted by a gang of sword-wielding abductors who intend to carry the girl off! A swashbuckling rescue ensues. But are these romantic children destined to a happily-ever-after ending?
This is a family show and anyone is welcome to attend for free. Good will offerings will be accepted to help fund the FungusAmongus Players trip to Iowa!
