Wright County area children, ages 8-18, are invited to attend HeArt Therapy – a mask making class for children with a parent or loved one who is fighting cancer. This event will be held on Monday, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday April 27 at the Virginia Piper Cancer Institute at Buffalo Hospital.
Art therapy can be beneficial for many reasons – expression, creativity and sensory awareness to name a few. HeArt Therapy is an opportunity for children to get in touch with and express their feelings when they have a parent or loved one fighting cancer. All supplies will be provided by the Buffalo Hospital Foundation and the class will be led by Meghan Laird, graduate student in the art therapy program at Adler Graduate School, and Heather Crabtree, PhD, ABPP, LP, Allina Health Clinic – Buffalo.
“We believe it is important for children, when dealing with issues like this, to express their emotions,” says Crabtree. “Cancer can be a scary time for all those affected and we want to help them through this process and let them know their feelings are normal.”
Masks will be displayed at the 5th Annual Spring Tonic, a fundraiser for Buffalo Hospital Foundation.
