A water main break in downtown Hanover Thursday night has left many local businesses without water service and closed the major roadway through the business district Friday morning.
City crews and contractors were busy cleaning up the mess, which was naturally moving to storm sewers despite below-freezing temperatures when the line break was flooding River Road last night. Waters receded after 8 a.m. this morning.
Roads near the break were closed, limiting access to business. Downtown shops, including the popular River Inn restaurant and bar, were accessible by foot as sidewalks were clear of water by 9:30.
