The St. Michael-Albertville School District has issued an apology today for delayed buses that left students outside in frigid temperatures this morning, waiting for routes that were 20 to 25 minutes late.
The district issued a text alert and then robo-called parents around the district shortly after 7:15 a.m. Monday, Feb. 23, but parents told North Wright County Today via e-mail and social media their children had been outside in temperatures near 10 below zero for several minutes before realizing buses would be a “no show,” or at least not in time for the beginning of school.
Some middle school students weren’t picked up until 8:30 a.m.
Here’s the official message from ISD 885:
“Good afternoon. As you are aware, there were several late buses this morning. This was because the bus company did not follow cold weather procedures to ensure that all buses would start and be ready for morning routes as they have done in the past. We are continuing to investigate the cause of this oversight and are taking appropriate actions to prevent this from happening in the future. Pleases be assured that the district acted as promptly as possible following notification of the bus situation. We take student safety very seriously and regret that students were in the cold and parents were inconvenienced.”
