St. Michael-Albertville Rotary Names Students of the Month

The STMA Rotary Club is pleased to announce that STMA juniors Alison Skon, Whitney Perry and Cassandra Oie have been named students of the month for November; and Nicole Christenson and William Dierberger have been named students of the month for December.

Alison is the daughter of Peggy and Brian Skon of St. Michael. She is a graduate of the U.S. Navy’s Petty Officer Leadership Academy and a nine-day boot camp at Great Lakes. She is a member of the U.S. Naval Sea Cadets and was leading Petty Officer of the 1^st Division on the U.S.S. Hornet, as well as Bravo squad leader. She is also active in STMA travelling soccer, musical, select choir and one act play and works at Nike. She has received numerous Navy ribbons and awards, lettered in musical and was a lady Knight. She plans to join Navy ROTC in college and to become a Navy or Marine Corps officer.

Whitney is the daughter of Leah Wilaby. She is active in cross country and track and field. She was conference champion for three years in the 100 meter dash and was selected to be a Freshman Connection Mentor for 2014-2015. She set the school record for the 4X100 meter relay in 2014 at 49.91 seconds. She plans to run track and field in college. She is considering a major in human biology and a minor in Spanish.

Cassandra is the daughter of Tim and Linda Oie of St. Michael. She is the president of HOSA at Wright Technical College, is a Girl Scout summer camp leader, karate instructor, junior confirmation guide at Word of Peace, volunteer at Maple Grove Hospital and is working on CNA certification. She has received numerous awards including the Courtesy and Respect Award and Academic Excellence Award for FACS 2014. She earned her second degree Black Belt award in 2014 and First Degree Black Belt in 2012. She plans to pursue a career in nursing with future plans to become a physician’s assistant.

Nicole is the daughter of Mike and Kris Christenson of Hanover. She is a football team manager, and is active in Girl Scouts, volunteers at her church and tutors. She has been on the A honor roll throughout middle and high school. She lettered in academics and football managing and received the Girl Scouts Silver Award. She plans to go into dentistry and orthodontics.

William is the son of Tom and Karen Dierberger of Hanover. He is active in cross-country and tennis and has a part-time job. He has received department awards in World Language, physical education/health, English, and Social Studies, He received the Spotlight on Scholarship Award (cross-country), the Courtesy and Respect Award, and a Coach’s Award (cross-country). He plans to study history and political science in college.

“Rotary is very proud to recognize these fine young people as students of the month for November and December,” said Kevin Lenz, STMA Rotary Club Community Service Chairman. “They have demonstrated a commitment to academic excellence, athletics and community service, and represent the service above self ideals of Rotary. We wish them all happy and successful futures.”

The STMA Rotary Club honors students of the month during each month of the school year. The awards are given during the students’ junior year so they may include them on college applications and scholarship forms. Rotary Students of the Month are selected by STMA’s home room teachers. Rotary Students of the Month must demonstrate an interest in their community, have personal accomplishments or achievements, show respect to themselves and others, show a passion for “Service Above Self” and must be drug/alcohol free and cannot have committed a crime.
