A recent study in the New England Journal of Medicine, in which researchers followed over 12,000 interconnected subjects determined conclusively that people who associate with overweight people become obese themselves – even if they’re not geographically close! By associating with people who are healthy, we too can develop those attributes!
So, how does one accomplish this in our busy world? There are many ways, a few of which I will list here:
– friends and family – wouldn’t you rather help change your friends’ habits than have to think about changing friends?
– formal settings – hire a personal trainer or coach, join a gym, start a formal weight loss program, join a behavioral group offered by professional counselors
– Online – Internet based systems have advanced tremendously. Join an internet challenge in which you can interact with other people with the same goals
If you want to improve your health, increase your odds of success by asking for help and connecting with others. And remember, “Time is the great equalizer. Time is either on your side, helping you build and maintain a thriving, vibrant life, or it’s slowly but insidiously draining your health bank account” Find a partner and start taking baby steps towards a healthier you in 2015!
