STMA Middle School West Shoe Drive Thinks Pink

Students at the Page Academy are teaming up with MADI to deliver much needed footwear to Uganda.

November 20, 2014 By Mike Schoemer

Page Academy, St. Michael-Albertville’s middle school level alternative program and student council, is teaming up with Making a Difference International (MADI) and St. Michael-Albertville Middle School West to collect shoes for people in need in Uganda.

Students and staff are collecting new or gently-used shoes of any size, infant through adult, to donate. Tie a rubber band around the pair of shoes and drop them off at Middle School West’s office area from now until Dec. 1.

Shoes are desperately needed kids and adults in Uganda, according to MADI director Funwi Tita, who has operated in the St. Michael area for several years. Though they protect the body from many injuries and illnesses, some individuals in Uganda may never own a pair without the donations collected here in places like STMA.

And there’s an additional bonus. Page Academy Director Michelle Heizelman will dye her hair pink if the school collects 2,401 pairs of shoes, or about three pair per student.

For more information, call Michelle at 763-497-4524, ext. 4236, or e-mail her at michelleh@stma.k12.mn.us.
