Entertainment and sports in Otsego just got a whole lot cooler.
“The Igloo” is set to arrive in the Great River Centre Development, home of the Otsego Super Target, some time later this year. The space, which will be located next to the retailer, will include a 135-foot-by-65-foot indoor ice rink, with the remainder of the 20,000 square feet dedicated to lockers, a full bar and restaurant that overlooks the ice, and seating.
The venture is headed up by Chris Gnetz, of Woodbury, who runs a satellite installation company on the Twin Cities’ southeast side. It is the first private ice venture of its kind for the Wright County area.
The “half-sized” rink will be geared toward 3-on-3 hockey games and training. According to sources, the ice may be covered and the venue can be used for entertainment purposes, as well, accommodating larger crowds than most venues in the northwest suburbs.
Gnetz told Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal reporter Nick Halter The Igloo will serve typical bar fare, such as pizza, burgers, pasta and sandwiches. It will apply for a liquor license with the City of Otsego.
Tim Igo of Suntide Commercial Realty and Tammy Brown of KW Commercial Midwest represented the Great River Centre in the transaction, according to Rebusiness Online. The Great River Centre is located off Wright County Highway 42 and Wright County Highway 39 in central Otsego, just west of Minnesota Highway 101.
