In one of the first public displays of the plant in recent memory, Xcel Energy is inviting the public to the Monticello Nuclear Generating Plant Training Center from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2 at the off-campus location of 2100 West River St.
The training station isn’t on the same site as the nuclear generating station, but the evening offers neighbors and Xcel customers the opportunity to learn more about the plant, its role on the grid, safety measures and modern science.
“The open house is an opportunity for our friends and neighbors to
learn more about nuclear power, electrical energy, safety and science,” Xcel said in an invitation. “You will be able to meet the people who keep the plant safe and secure, learn about working at a nuclear power plant, and how the plant operates.”
Other activities will include a scientific experiment for kids, as well as information and activities on energy efficiency,
nuclear safety, and electrical safety.
Participants will also be able to take a tour of Xcel Monticello’s full-scale nuclear control room simulator!
Food and beverages will be served.
