Drivers who use Barthel Industrial Boulevard to get to and from the north and south sides of Albertville are going to have to head back to Main Avenue or County Road 19 (LaBeaux Avenue) in the city as construction begins soon on a major project along the route.
A storm sewer replacement project is slated to begin this month, improving drainage and road conditions along the intersection of 54th Street Northeast and Barthel after the road flooded a number of times due to heavy rains over the last three years.
The flooding has caused damage to the road and to nearby homeowners. Drivers have also had to navigate the backed-up intersection during major events.
The road was slated to close Wednesday, Sept. 3, but weather will most likely keep that from happening. The project should last through the majority of the fall months and wrap up before freezing temperatures arrive in the area, according to city staff discussion.
