The golf cart driver whose sudden turn led to the accident between him and a beloved Buffalo and Monticello area doctor is now facing charges of careless driving.
According to a criminal complaint recently filed in Wright County, Korie Schiel, 39, of Chaska, was charged with a single count after he allegedly made a left turn from the northbound shoulder of Wright County Road 2, crossing in front of Dr. Eric Lefebvre’s motorcycle in the northbound lane, and sending Lefebvre into a fatal crash on the afternoon of July 19.
The complaint goes on to state that Lefebvre was wearing a helmet and motorcycle riding gear, but the force of the crash on his chest and torso led to fatal injuries. Lefebvre was treated by crews from both South Haven and Allina Ambulance, but was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Schiel told officers he was “checking on his mother’s property” as he drove along County 2, also known as Rhoades Avenue near Lake Francis.
Lefebvre, whose funeral was last month, delivered literally thousands of Wright County area babies. He and his wife, Deb, also own Buffalo Books and Coffee.
