Buffalo Police Department Bids Chief Farewell

August 14, 2014 By Mike Schoemer

Buffalo Police Chief Mitch Weinzetl, who announced his retirement to the Buffalo City Council earlier this year, will be honored with a Community Open House Thursday, Aug. 15 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the City of Buffalo City Council Chambers at 212 Central Ave.

Weinzetl told city leaders he will be making a career change this year, after he accepted a job in the criminal justice department at St. Cloud State University. The chief will be heading up the online program for the university’s Public Safety Executive Service Program.

As chief, Weinzetl oversaw a department with 17 full-time officers and nine reserve officers, as well as two office/records staff people and a department administrative assistant.

The public is welcome to the event, which will include cake and refreshments.
