U9 Girls Maroon – Dorland: The u9 Girls Maroon team, lead by coach Tim Dorland, started off the week losing a nail bitter 2-1 to North Oaks. The team began the game flat and found themselves down 2-0 at the half. The girls came out fired up in the second half and outplayed their opponent but were unable to close the gap. Hannah K. scored the lone goal for STMA.
The team then participated in the STMA United Soccer Fest Tournament over the weekend and finished with a record of 2-0-1 over 3 games. The girls played very well as a team and got stronger as the tournament went on. Game 1 STMA took on Prior Lake, winning 4-1. Game 2 brought on a familiar opponent in the North Metro Stars, and ended in a 1-1 tie after the game was called early in the second half due to weather. Game 3 STMA took on Delano, winning 8-2. Nikki B, Ella H, and Zaya E. lead the scoring for the tournament with each having multiple goals. Tailyn R, Mackenzie B, Elliott L, Ava S. all added a goal of their own in the tournament.
Well done girls!
U10 Girls Maroon – Sustacek: STMA’s u10 Maroon girls battled a team from North Metro this week and finished with another win, 3-1. Scoring for STMA was Brenna M, Jenna J, and Brooke B. Chloe F played great at goalie and again made some late game saves to preserve the win, which earned her another defensive player of the game award.
The U10 Maroon team also had an opportunity to play on the larger field at the Burnsville FIRE Cup tournament in the U-11 division. We were joined by 4 players from the STMA u11 c3 team. The girls made a strong showing at the tournament and are excited to play on the U-11 size field this fall. The team finished with a record of 2-2 in the tournament outshooting their opponents in every game. Scoring for STMA was Brenna M(3), Jenna J(3), Raelin S(2), Casey F, Eleanor TW, Adalyn P, Maisie T, Mckensie D. In our second game against the Euro Futball Club, Chloe F did not allow a goal while playing goalie. Earning the defensive hard worker award for the tournament was Brenna M on day 1 and Sophia F on day 2. Great job girls!
U11 Boys c2 – Spitalnick: The u11 boys team took part in the Star of the North soccer tournament this past weekend. The u11’s went 3-0 to win their bracket pitching a 6-0 shutout in the third game to move on to the championship game. Unfortunately for the u11’s they were unable to overcome a tough opponent in the championship match, but finished with a well earned second place. Coaches and parents were very proud of the team. They started the season 0-4 but didn’t let that get their sprirts down, instead, the team rebounded with stellar play to cap off the year by winning 8 or the final 10 games (including tournaments). Great Job Boys!
U12 Girls C2 – Fritz: To start the week STMA’s u12 c2 girls played St. Louis Park controlling the game from the start and picking up a win 5-1. Game 2 on the week saw STMA tie Chaska-Chan 1-1. Both teams had multiple chances in the game to break the tie, but neither could break through in the end.
The week was not over for the u12’s as they then traveled to Duluth for the Lake Superior Open Tournament. The first game was against Edina and STMA won 3-0, while also leaving a lot of scoring chances on the field. The second game was against a very tough Cloquet team. In the second half the severe weather started to roll in and everyone knew that the first goal would be key. STMA scored with about 10 minutes left in the game and then the game was called due to weather.
With the victories in round robin play the u12’s advanced to Championship to face Park Valley United. The game was a hard fought match-up and defense was key as the game went to halftime 0-0. In the second half however, the offense for both teams started to pick up and Park Valley was able to score 2 goals while STMA was only able to score 1. Fantastic 2nd place finish in a tough tournament!
