Water Cuts St. Michael Road to Single Lane

June 17, 2014 By Mike Schoemer

Wright County Highway 119 is cut to a single lane at Pelican Lake due to heavy rainfall over the past six weeks.
The Wright County lake, which is slated to be drained to create a waterfowl management area, has risen at least two feet and covered the road near Wright County 37 in between St. Michael and Monticello.
How much rain?
According to the National Weather Service, the last 45 days have been some of the wettest recorded here.
In May, the northwestern corner of Wright County received 7.3 inches of rain. That, on top of a wet alto and a winter that saw slightly above average snowfall, out the region more than 4 inches ahead of average precipitation for the year.
Now, after just 16 days in June, another 3.7 inches has fallen, with more than 2 since Friday, June 13.
To top it off, a humid week is on tap, with storms expected Tuesday night and Thursday night, before drier conditions arrive Sunday.
