Even though most of the week was rained out, STMA United teams were still able to take advantage of the games that were played. Highlights from week 7 of the MYSA season are below:
U10 Girls Maroon – Sustacek: The U-10 STMA Maroon girls team participated in the MYSA Summer Jamboree and finished with a record of 2-0-1 over 3 games. The girls played well as a team and also played hard. The team did not allow their opponents to score in the 3 games. Goalies for those games contributing to the shutout were Brooke B, Chloe F, Maisie T, and Sophia F. Scoring for the team were Maisie T (2), Emma D (2), Brooke B, Casey F, Brenna M, and Raelin S. Assisting on those goals were Brenna M (2), Brooke B, Chloe F, and Raelin S. The team awarded the defensive player award to Brooke B. for some remarkable saves at goalie.
The team also played against North Suburban last week which ended in a 1-1 tie. The u10’s went into the game with only 7 players.. They led most of the game with an early goal by Jenna J and assisted by Raelin S, but in the second half the N.S. tied the score on a long distance shot. In the last 5 minutes of the game, STMA girls were peppering the opposition goalie with shots, but were unable to break the tie. For her hustle and hard work, Sophia F was awarded the defensive player of the game award for this game.
The u10’s weren’t done yet as they played a close game against MapleBrook and won 2-1. The Maplebrook team scored in the first few minutes, but later in the first half, Chloe F scored with a header. The assist was a goalie punt from Brenna M. In the second half Casey F scored to give STMA the lead. The girls played hard and did a great job of pressuring the other team’s goalie with many shots. The defensive player of the game was Eleanor TW as she hustled the entire game and was effective in keeping the other team from getting an open shot.
U12 Girls C2 – Fritz: To start the week STMA’s U12 Girls traveled to Minneapolis United and lost a close game 2-0. STMA had multiple chances on net, however the girls could not find the back of the net.
STMA then went on to play in the Coon Rapids Tournament. The first game was against the North Metro Diamonds. The Diamonds controlled the ball most of the game and won 4-1. STMA was the only team to score on the Diamonds in the tournament. In the second game the u12’s faced off against the host Coon Rapids team and jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead. The lead wouldn’t last though and STMA ended up having to come back late in the second half to tie the game up 2-2. In the final game STMA played against Monticello. STMA again had chances however MTC was the only team to score. STMA lost 2-0.
The u12 c2 girls now have a season record of 4 wins, 4 losses and 3 ties.
U13 Girls C1 – Allen: The u13 girls c1 team, lead by coach Nate Allen had a fantastic run of success this past week. The u13’s tied a tough North West Kickers team 2-2 during league play and then went on to the Rochester tournament over the weekend.
The Tournament was a great success for the u13’s as they outscored their opponents 12-0 over the four games. In game 1 STMA took on Andover, winning 3-0. Game 2 brought on Centennial as a challenge and STMA rolled to victory 5-0. Game 3 of the qualifying round saw STMA take on the host team from Rochester and once again win 2-0.
After points were tallied, STMA would again match up with Rochester for the tournament championship. STMA played a fantastic game and equaled their earlier result against Rochester winning 2-0 to take home the tournament Championship. Daisy M. notched a goal in 3 of the 4 tournament games for STMA.
The u13’s season record now stands at 8-3-4.
U13 Girls C3 – Durruty: STMA’s u13 c3 girls had a less active week then their c1 counterparts, however the results were similar. STMA took on Delano on Tuesday, the only dry day of the week. The girls played hard and Ally H managed to score a goal for STMA. Delano netted 3 goals in the game, however one of them was an own goal which counted for STMA. Thanks to the gift by Delano, the final score ended in a 2-2 tie.
The u13’s record now stands at 2-4-3 on the year with three league games remaining.
U15 Boys C2 – Baldwin: The STMA United u15 boys continued their fantastic play, notching another victory to drive their record to 13-0-1. It did not come easily however, as STMA would have to play against an undefeated Edina team.
The boys started the game a little slow for the first 15 minutes. Edina was pressing most of that time and the play was mostly at midfield and in STMA’s half. But then the u15’s strung together a few nice passes to get out of their end and down the left side to get into the final third of the field. The passing resulted in a corner kick, and once again, on a well places cross to the near post, Noah H beat his defender and placed a one timer into the net. The goal woke the u15’s up for the rest of the game and they rolled to the 6-2 win.
Goals were scored by Isaiah S, Tanner Son, Jacob M and Max M. Asaba C played extremely well in net facing 9 challenging shots from Edina. The team would also like to thank Tucker V and Max M for playing up from the u14’s for the game. They really contributed to the play of the game and made a big impact.
The u15’s look to finish out their league play season with 2 more games. Great Job Boys
