The STMA United Soccer Club kicked off it’s opening week of games last week with great results for multiple teams. This summer STMA United boasts 30 traveling teams from ages 8-17. Highlights from week 3 of the 2014 Minnesota Youth Soccer Association (MYSA) season are below.
U9 Girls Gold – Meischner: The girls finally had their first league game of the year and took full advantage of a less aggressive Chaska-Chan team. The team moved the ball well and played tough team defense, holding Chask-Chan scoreless. Many players joined in the scoring during the game, highlighted by 2 goals each for Olivia P. and Lily M. Ani R. also added 3 goals during the 10-0 win. Great start by the girls!
U10 Girls Gold – Williams: The team took on Monticello on Monday night in the rain and cold. Both teams worked hard and played tough defense. Unfortunately for STMA, Monticello was able to score the loan goal during the contest. STMA tried their best to tie it up, but just couldn’t get the tying goal. Lauren C, Makayla G & Isabel M were awarded players of the week by team for their hard work on the field.
U12 Girls C2 – Fritz: The u12 Girls, led by coach Chad Fritz, played their 2nd league game of the year vs Edina. In the first half of the game, STMA jumped out quickly and scored an early goal. The team was able to play fantastic defense for the rest of the half to keep the score 1-0. In the second half, STMA passed very well, using it to their advantage to score. The goal was set up by a great chip by the midfielder and a sprint to the ball by the striker who then calmly slotted the ball in the net to give STMA a 2-0 lead.
After the 2nd goal, the game wasn’t over, however, and Edina put on the pressure to try to tie it up. Unfortunately for STMA, the pressure worked and Edina was able to score two goals to tie the game up. The game ended in a draw 2-2. Great Job girls!
U13 Girls C3 – Durruty: STMA’s u13 girls team picked up their first league win of the season with an 8-0 route of the Urban Soccer Stars. Goals came early and often for the team and their defense was tenacious thorough out the game. Abby R led the way with 3 goals, Gianna H added 2 of her own and Malia C, Isabel B and Kiera B each netted 1. Ellie T and Kiera B also combined in goal to make 3 saves and preserve the shut-out for STMA. The girls are now 1-1-1 in league play and look to continue building on their strong season with a game vs Eden Prairie this week. Way to go girls!
U15 Boys C2 – Baldwin: This game turned out to be a very good battle at the midfield. Both teams defense stepped up to the task allowing few shots on net. STMA had their chances to score but missed some great opportunities. Edina had 6 shots on net the whole game.
The play of the game was a penalty kick that was awarded to Edina. STMA’s goalie, Asaba C, dove to his right just as the Edina player kicked from the spot. Asaba reached out and deflected the attempt away from the bottom left corner of the net. It was an AWSOME save by Asaba and preserved the 0-0 score. With the effort from STMA boys, coach Baldwin believed the team let a win get away as the game ended in a 0-0 tie. The team is still unbeaten on the year at 6-0-1 and continues to play well.
