PThe STMA United Soccer Club kicked off it’s opening week of games last week with great results for multiple teams. This summer STMA United boasts 30 traveling teams from ages 8-17. Highlights from week 1 of the 2014 Minnesota Youth Soccer Association (MYSA) season are below.
U9 Girls Maroon -Dorland: The girls played in their first weekend tournament of the season winning 2 games and losing 1. Their only loss of the weekend came against a team of u10 maroon players. Zaya E. led the team with 3 goals during the tournament while Ava S. & Nikki B. each added 1. Hannah K. was amazing in goal for the team and saved everything shot her way. Mackenzie B, Josie V, and Tailyn R won player(s) of the game during the tournament. The team rewarded each of them with an award and a free pizza. Great job girls!
U10 Girls Maroon – Sustaceck: With only 1 outdoor team practice, the U-10 STMA Maroon girls started the MYSA league season off with a win against Maplebrook. It was a team win as everyone contributed. The lone goal was off the foot of Eleanor T-W. The girls had numerous scoring opportunities, and on multiple occasions there were shots that hit the goal post. Their goalkeepers played great with Chloe F. and Brooke B. combining for the shutout. Brooke ended up making a remarkable save with 5 seconds left in the game to preserve the win. Well done girls!
U10 Girls Gold – Williams: The girls played their first league game of the season against Minnetonka. It was a fantastic game for the team that saw some very hard work against a very good Minnetonka team. STMA was up to the task though and played Minnetonka to a 1-1 tie to open the season. Ashlyn H. & Maddie I were given player(s) of the week by their team for their hard work during the game and practices. Congrats girls!
U12 Boys C2 – Lindstrom: The boys opened up their MYSA league schedule with 2 wins this past week against teams from Wright County (WC) and Plymouth (PSA) to open the year at 2-0. During the game vs Wright County, Matt B scored 2 goals including the winning goal in the 2nd half in a 3-2 victory on Monday. Later in the week vs PSA, Taylor G scored 3 goals in the 2nd half in the teams 6-3 victory. The team rallied from 1-2 half time deficit on to pick up number 2 on the year. Great play all around!
U12 Girls C2 – Fritz: The u12 Girls c2 team led by Coach Chad Fritz opened their league play season this past week with 1-1 draw against a team from the Rogers Rebels soccer club. The team played hard to earn it’s first point of the season in the MYSA standings.
U15 Boys C2 – Baldwin: The u15 boys coached by Mike Baldwin opened their season in a big way this past week. The team played their first league game vs Waconia winning 4-0. Tanner Sor. scored 2 goals for the team with Brennan B. & Tanner Son. Each netted one of their own. Asaba C. was steady in goal with 5 saves.
That wasn’t the end for this u15 boys team success for the week. After winning game 1 on the season, they then went on to win the NW Kickers Spring Kickoff tournament without giving up a goal. The team played two NW Kickers teams and another team from Wright County. Game #1 of the tournament saw STMA take on a team from NW Kickers winning 3-0. STMA would then go on to beat Wright County 4-0 and Cloquet 3-0 to advance to the championship match. During the championship match against NW Kickers the ball handling and passing of the team was phenominal and the defense was top-notch. STMA came away with the tournament title with a 4-0 win capping off a week that saw the team score 18 goals and not allow a single one in return. Fantastic week by the u15’s!
