It’s tough to compete against a teen with more than 500,000 Twitter followers and 2 million fans on Facebook, but Kat Perkins of Minneapolis gave it her all.
After facing elimination each of the past two weeks, the sister of St. Michael mom Kelly Perkins Robinson and so-called “Rockin’ Nanny” couldn’t overcome Christina Grimmie in this week’s elimination semifinal, with the YouTube sensation and former teen touring artist Grimmie moving on to next week’s final on the NBC smash hit “The Voice.”
Perkins, who tackled Australian artist Sia’s song “Chandalier” with a complex arrangement Monday night, also performed the Disney instant classic “Let it Go” from “Frozen” for her Edina family in the semifinal.
She’ll, no doubt, make an appearance in Monday’s season finale despite her elimination Tuesday night.
“She’s been the most consistent one out here, week in and week out,” said coach and star Adam Levine, one of the four music stars who advise contestants on the show. “Everyone else has had their ups and downs. She deserves the final because she’s been so consistent.”
Instead, it was Levine’s pupil, Grimmie, who advanced over Grimmie and country singer Kristen Merlin.
Here’s a behind the scenes look at Perkins’ final week on the show.
And her rendition of “Let it Go.” (Good luck getting it out of your head for the rest of the day.)
As for her more than two-month ride on the show, Perkins remained upbeat.
“I feel like I just got done skydiving,” she told Twin Cities KARE 11.
