D.R. Horton representatives were given the green light by the St. Michael City Council Tuesday night, clearing the way for the community’s first new housing development since the industry crashed in 2008.

The St. Michael City Council unanimously approved the final plat for the Cascades Development, a planned unit development that will include about 45 mid-tier homes, similar to developments now found in St. Michael, such as The Highlands.
The builder plans to leave several outlots in place, some of which might be dedicated for park land. The homes will be subject to a development code put in place by both the St. Michael Planning Commission and the builder, D.R. Horton.
The builder hopes to have grading and fill in place to begin construction on model homes this summer, with an open model set to roll this fall.
