A man fleeing a Wright County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Sunday night rolled his all-terrain vehicle (ATV) near the Wild Wings Bar and Grill in Monticello around 9:20 p.m. Sunday, March 30.
According to a sound recording of scanner chatter provided by Police Clips, the man was being approached by a deputy when he attempted to flee the scene. Almost immediately, the deputy in pursuit reported the ATV crashed, and reported the location near Buffalo Wild Wings around 9:19 p.m.
Dispatch ordered all available, nearby deputy units to the scene, and three minutes later, the original responding officer ordered for air ambulance, with a landing zone set up at Walmart in Monticello (in the parking lot).
Finding the rider unresponsive, chatter shows the deputies assume injuries warrant air ambulance. Dispatch confirms an eight-minute wait time for the air ambulance, while the Monticello Fire and Rescue Department is dispatched to close off the frontage road to Walmart and to create a suitable landing area in the Walmart lot around 9:25 p.m.
Chatter also shows the vehicle was a Honda TRX 400 four-wheeler, registered to a Monticello resident (the man is named in the recording).
The man was airlifted to North Memorial Hospital by North Air Care. His condition is not known at this time.
